Honors Courses

What are Honors Courses?

At Seaside High, students have the opportunity to take certain academic classes at the Honors level. Honors courses tend to offer the same material in greater depth and with a faster pace;  they emphasize critical and independent thinking to produce creative applications of ideas. Honors courses also offer students a more rigorous course of study and prepare students for Advanced Placement (AP) classes and college. Students in Honors classes should expect that the demands will be higher than that of a regular class.

Benefits of taking Honors Courses

  1. Increased academic rigor.
  2. Preparation for Advance Placement courses.
  3. Extra point towards the student's Grade Point Average (GPA) when receiving a "C" or better in the course. For example, an "A" in a Honors class is 5 points versus only 4 points for an "A" in a regular class. This is how many students are able to earn higher than a 4.0 GPA.
  4. Prepares students for college.
  5. Improves students admissions eligibility.
